Long story short I got my first ever ticket "issued" by a red light camera for not coming to a complete stop before I turned right at an intersection. This happened at night, therefore the camera flashing, caused the video evidence image to go white for a second as I was slowing down to "stop". Keep this in mind, as I will return to this later. My beef is more so with the "hearing" that I chose to attend today to contest my ticket, although the red light cameras that many cities are profiting from are bullshit as well. The hearing consisted of a hearing "officer" acting as judge, some peon operating the laptop with the video evidence being projected on the screen, 2 uniformed police officers, and all of the individuals on the receiving end of each red light camera ticket. Now to be brutally honest, NOT ONE PERSON CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP (myself included) ACCORDING TO THE VIDEO EVIDENCE. The hearing officer automatically "gave" the benefit of the doubt to those of us that received their citation at night, with the flash of the camera rendering the evidence useless due to the screen going blank for that second. A technicality. Bogus in itself, but for the purposes of this rant lets leave it be. Now the rest of the people that tried talking their way out of their ticket, some got off, most did not. In EVERY case, the defendant was GUILTY. What has our legal "system" (if this hearing could even be compared to such) come to? This literally made my blood boil sitting there and observing all of this. There was one situation that particularly stood out. A middle aged woman is called up to view evidence against her. She pulls into the intersection, slows down, and proceeds to make the right hand turn. At first the hearing officer tells her she failed to come to a complete stop, but she was adamant that she did and he finally let her have it. Im sitting in the back of the room watching this thinking "W.T.F. mate?" How was that excusable? Another person goes up, gets the shaft and they are out the door. A middle aged male is called up, shown his evidence (looks EXACTLY like the woman's which I just described) and is told that he is guilty. He argues that his evidence looked the same as the woman's that was just let off (which it was) but he was found guilty. The man argued and pleaded and asked to view the evidence multiple times, but the cockhead hearing "officer" was adamant that he was not going to change his mind. When the man asked how he could appeal, the hearing officer told him that he could not give him that information, but that the man has 30 days and should consult an attorney. What kind of HORSESHIT is this?? I got off due to a technicality, but EVERY SINGLE PERSON IN THAT COURTROOM WAS GUILTY! How is the hearing officer going to pick and choose whose ticket gets ignored and whose doesn't? The hearing was unfair, unjust, and in my opinion unconstitutional. I can only see this getting much, much worse. Sorry for the rant. Just had to get this mockery of a hearing off my chest. Delete at will.
The key to winning is knowing how to play the game. I am diabolically clever and can piss further than you can think...I always win.
